The Brass Vessel, or the Vessel of Brass, is a large, brass container that was crafted by King Solomon to imprison the seventy-two demons that he once enslaved and commissioned them build his temple.
The vessel was cast into the central cistern in Iram by King Solomon, because it contained the seventy-two tormented spirits. Solomon then branded the lid with his Sacred Seal to ensure that the spirits within never escape. However, upon its casting into the sea that surrounded Iram, it tainted the water supply of the entire city, causing anyone who drank it to hallucinate their worst fears, which resulted in people appearing to be possessed by Djinn demons. The people were driven mad and the city was subsequently abandoned.
The vessel was then later discovered by the Babylonians, who believed it contained a great treasure. When they broke open the vessel, the demons and their legions were set free, and they returned to their infernal abode. The whereabouts and status of the vessel is unknown although scholars believe that the Brass Vessel would still be capable of trapping these demons but only if one had the lid that is carved with the Seal of Solomon.
