The SATOR Square is a two-dimensional mystical word square containing a five-word Latin palindrome. Such palindromes were viewed as being immune to tampering by the devil, who would become confused by the repetition of the letters. In folk magic they have been for various purposes, including putting out fires, removing jinxes, healing fevers, and to protect cattle from witchcraft. The oldest datable representation of the Sator Square was found in the ruins of Pompeii.
These Sator Squares are engraved in heavy, 18 gauge brushed brass, hand-enameled and backed in burgundy velvet.
