This folksy witch was reproduced from the Tuscan Witch image of Italian folklore.
The design was hand-carved into terra cotta clay from drawings. A plaster mold was made from the master tile. From there, either terra cotta, stoneware or porcelain clay is pressed into the mold, creating a duplicate, which is then touched up. After drying, the tile is fired in a kiln. It may then be hand-painted with acrylic paints and varnish, or glazed and refired (up to 3 times), or simply given a colored wash and refired.
The tile measures 5-1/4 inches in diameter, and hangs on the wall by a durable cord.
